Renhui (Lola) Chen is a current dual degree student in the Master of Science in Environment and Sustainability and the Master of Arts in International and Regional Studies at University of Michigan. She’s also a team member of WILDRHINOS (Worldwide Innovative Learning Design for Reconciliation of Human Interests with Nature and Overexploited Species) project team. Her professional interest lies in reframing conservation issues related to economic development and internationally marginalized groups.

As a Chinese environmentalist who has long been burdened by the oversimplified racialized portrayals of “Chinese being the biggest wildlife consumer driving the extinction of wildlife populations all over the world”, she’s interested in bringing in nuanced narratives that contest the mainstream wildlife conservation narratives by contextualizing the socio-economic background of the often stereotyped actors (e.g. hunters) in the conservation narratives.
