Jovan Scott Lewis is Professor of Geography and Haas Distinguished Chair in Economic Disparities at the University of California, Berkeley. His research examines the histories and contemporary experiences of economic inequality in the United States and the Caribbean. He is the author ofScammer’s Yard: The Crime of Black Repair in Jamaica (2020),Violent Utopia:Dispossession and Black Restoration in Tulsa (2022), and co-editor of The BlackGeographic (2023). From 2021 to 2023 Lewis served as a governor-appointed member of the State of California Reparations Task Force.
