Shayna Moss is a master’s candidate at Yale’s School of the Environment. She believes access to food is a fundamental human right. She’s committed to equity and justice in food and farming systems and hopes to build communities that nourish both land and people. Before Yale, she worked in San Francisco and helped coordinate one of the nation’s largest farmer’s market food-stamp redemption programs. While in the Bay Area, she also worked at an urban farm as an outdoor educator and farmer. Shayna holds a B.S. in Horticulture from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While at Madison, she had the opportunity to work with local farmers. After seeing the scale of food waste from agricultural research stations, markets, and restaurants, Shayna directed the Campus Food Shed, a food recovery organization that redistributed thousands of pounds of free food to students through refrigerators stocked on a daily basis. Outside of school, Shayna enjoys hosting big dinners, cooking with friends, dunking in natural bodies of water, and going on long bike rides.
