Shumaisa has been working at the intersection of food, health, and urban sustainability in London since 2007. Her work focuses on community food initiatives, the solidarity economy, and regenerative systems, and she has a particular interest in participatory methods of governance and research. She has worked at the University of Surrey, University of Brighton, and currently works for the National Food Service London and Phytology.
